Editorial | Upland Brewing Co. | Exhibit Columbus Beer Stein

Upland Brewing Co. partnered with Exhibit Columbus, renowned architect, Kulapat Yantrasast, and Louisville Stoneware to celebrate the Exhibit Columbus art installations with a commemorative beer stein.

“I wanted to make something simple and practical, yet one that people long to touch and to hold. The inspiration comes from the hybrid of Henry Moore’s Large Arch, blended with form from classic water towers one finds throughout Indiana and the American Heartland. I think it speaks about the roots in the land of Columbus, as well as its remarkable cultural vision.”
Yantrasast via Upland Brewing Co.

I had the opportunity to travel to Louisville, Kentucky to document the process of these steins being made. I interviewed Louisville Stoneware's CEO, Steve Smith, about the history of the company and the process of creating this piece. I then traveled to Columbus, Indiana and interviewed Upland Brewing Co.'s President, Doug Dayhoff, and Exhibit Columbus' Director, Richard McCoy, about Columbus and the collaboration with Yantrasast and Louisville Stoneware.

You can visit the Exhibit Columbus' 18 outdoor, site-responsive installations through November 26th and purchase this beer stein at the Upland's Columbus Pump House and online. Read more about the project here
